  15. **** DESQview and DOS 5
  16.  
  17. The shipping versions of all Quarterdeck 
  18. products are compatible with DOS 5.  Users of 
  19. Quarterdeck products who have installed DOS 5 
  20. should observe the following guidelines with our
  21. currently shipping products:
  22.  
  23. 1) Do not use the "DOS=UMB" option or the 
  24. DEVICEHIGH or LOADHIGH statements.  
  25. Quarterdeck's LOADHI technology, available with 
  26. our QEMM and QRAM products, makes the "DOS=UMB" 
  27. option unnecessary.
  28.  
  29. 2) The "DOS=HIGH" option sometimes results in a 
  30. net loss of conventional memory inside DESQview.
  31. If you use the "DOS=HIGH" option, inspect the 
  32. DESQview Memory Status program before and after 
  33. "DOS=HIGH" to determine which configuration 
  34. gives you the largest window size in DESQview. 
  35.  
  36. 3) Use QEMM-386, not DOS 5's EMM386.EXE, as an 
  37. 80386 memory manager if you are running on an 
  38. 80386.  EMM386 cannot provide the range of 
  39. features that QEMM-386 can.
  40.  
  41. 4) If you load DOS 5's DOSKEY before DESQview, 
  42. you should load it again in each DESQview 
  43. window in which you wish to use it.
  44.  
  45. 5) Don't use the DOS 5 DOSSHELL's task switcher 
  46. option with DESQview.

  49. **** Intel SatisFAXtion Board
  50.  
  51. If you wish to use the Intel SatisFAXtion board 
  52. in a DESQview window, you will probably need 
  53. the HOOKINT.ZIP file on the Quarterdeck 
  54. Bulletin Board at (310) 396-3904.  More 
  55. detailed instructions are available with the 
  56. HOOKINT program on our bulletin board.

  59. **** AST Premium Exec 386SX/20 Notebook
  60.      ACER 1100SX
  61.  
  62. DESQview-386 users often experience a delay of 
  63. a minute or more when entering DESQview on the 
  64. AST Premium Exec 386SX/20 Notebook and on the 
  65. Acer 1100SX.  The delay is due to timing 
  66. problems with a BIOS call that DESQview makes
  67. to get information about port mice.  The delay 
  68. vanishes if a port mouse is plugged into the 
  69. mouse port on these machines; it is reduced to 
  70. 8-15 seconds if the IGNOREA20 parameter is 
  71. added to the QEMM-386 line in the CONFIG.SYS 
  72. file.  There is also a technical note called 
  73. DELAYMS.PAT, #201 on the Quarterdeck Q/FAX 
  74. service at (310) 314-3214, that will instruct 
  75. you on how to patch DESQview's DV.EXE file to 
  76. remove the delay.

  79. **** Microsoft Windows
  80.  
  81. DESQview's Learn feature and its Transfer 
  82. function do not work in windows running 
  83. Microsoft Windows.  Windows takes its 
  84. keystrokes directly from the keyboard hardware, 
  85. and never sees the keystrokes that DESQview's 
  86. Learn and Transfer place in the BIOS's keyboard 
  87. buffer.

  90. **** PageMaker 4 .DVP file
  91.  
  92. When installing PageMaker 4 onto your DESQview
  93. menu, it may be necessary to manually enter the
  94. name of the directory where Windows is
  95. installed onto the Change a Program screen.
  96. This information should be placed in the
  97. "Directory" field of the Change a Program /
  98. Standard Options screen.

  101. **** Q/FAX
  102.  
  103. Q/FAX, a service of Quarterdeck Office Systems, 
  104. allows you to receive technical notes, product 
  105. information and upgrade information right on 
  106. your fax machine.   The technical notes are 
  107. particularly extensive and provide answers to 
  108. the most common problems that may be 
  109. encountered when using Quarterdeck products.  
  110. Using Q/FAX is easy.  Here's what you do:
  111.  
  112. 1. Pick up the phone at your fax machine and 
  113. call (310) 314-3214.  Q/FAX is available 24
  114. hours a day, 7 days a week.  This number is for 
  115. outgoing Q/FAX service only.  If you want to 
  116. send us a fax, send to (310) 314-3217.

  118. 2.  When you hear the computer answer, use your 
  119. touchtone phone to enter the code number of the 
  120. fax you want (from the Master List), followed 
  121. by the pound sign (#).  You may order up to 
  122. three faxes per session.  To correct an error, 
  123. press the asterisk key (*) and enter the number 
  124. again.

  126. 3.  When prompted by the computer, press the 
  127. "START/COPY" or "RECEIVE" button on your fax 
  128. machine.  This is often the green button on 
  129. your machine.  You may then hang up and should 
  130. immediately receive your fax.

  132. The first fax you will want to request is our 
  133. Master List of faxes (#100).  This lists 
  134. contains a full, up-to-date, description of all 
  135. the faxes that are available, along with the 
  136. numbers you enter to get them.
